DPSS Laser Module is a diode-pumped solid-state laser. In recent years, it is the fastest-developing and widely used new laser in the world. This type of laser uses a semiconductor laser with a fixed wavelength instead of the traditional krypton lamp or xenon lamp to pump the laser crystal, thus achieving a new development, known as the second generation of lasers.

Diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSS) uses the basic LD as the pump light source, therefore, it is the specific application of semiconductor lasers. Solid state laser is the first successfully developed laser and has a history of nearly 40 years. Since the 1980s, the development of solid state lasers is relatively fast. Several new solid-state lasers with directivity have appeared, which are semiconductor laser diode-pumped solid-state lasers, tunable solid-state lasers,s, and high-power solid-state lasers. Due to the low cost of laser diode (LD), LD-pumped DPSS are gradually replacing other pumped solid-state lasers.

 

Because DPSS Laser Module has the advantages of both diode laser and solid laser, and each makes up for some disadvantages of the other. Although it is possible to eliminate some of the shortcomings of LD with the development of technology (improving the beam quality and increasing the output power), the peak power and energy storage capacity of solid-state lasers cannot be replaced by LD. The electric-optical conversion efficiency of DPSS is up to 19%, and the continuous operation can reach hundreds of thousands of hours. The thermal load and thermal effect of DPSS are about 3 times smaller than that of the lamp-pumped solid-state laser, and the beam quality is good, the volume is small, and the DPSS can be fully cured. The above outstanding advantages will enable it to be widely used in many fields, such as communications, remote sensing, ranging and target indication, coherent radar, precision machining, optical storage and image processing, medical, high-speed electronics, chemical dynamics, and spectroscopy. In particular, we are interested in the application prospects of high-power DPSS in high-power laser weapons and laser fusion. DPSS are not only good tactical laser weapons but also promising theater defense weapons. For example, the United States Air Force has shifted the focus of missile defense to high-tech laser beams, and the high-power DPSS system has become one of the most important selected laser weapons in airborne and space-borne space platforms.

The main advantages of DPSS Laser Module:

(1) High energy conversion efficiency. Because the electro-optical conversion efficiency of the semiconductor laser diode can reach more than 30%, much higher than the conversion efficiency of the general flash lamp, and because the output excitation line of the semiconductor laser diode is narrow, and can be changed by the composition and structure of the activation region, or change its working temperature, so that the output laser center wavelength and the absorption peak of the solid working substance accurately coincide, So the conversion efficiency of DPSS is high.

 

(2) Compared with the semiconductor laser diode, the output excitation spectral line of DPSS is several orders of magnitude narrower, the laser divergence Angle is small, has high time and space coherence, and it is easy to obtain high output power. This is why DPSS is not used directly in many cases.

 

(3) Good frequency stability. Since DPSS produce less reactive heat during operation, the temperature of the working substance is stable. And because DPSS can make all solid-state devices, the effect of vibration can be eliminated. A DPSS using YAG and an effective stabilization method has a frequency urgency of 30Hz, while the normal solid-state laser frequency stability is no better than 17kHz.

 

(4) Long life, miniaturization, simple structure, easy to use. Due to the inevitable thermal effect, the quantum loss (quantum effect) of LD pumped solid state laser and lamp pumped solid state laser always exists, especially in the high power diode pumped solid state laser thermal effect is more significant.
