Ultraviolet Light can be divided into four regions according to different wavelengths, short wave ultraviolet light for short UVC, wavelength 200-280nm, medium wave ultraviolet light for short UVB, wavelength 280-320nm, long wave ultraviolet light for short UVA, wavelength 320-400nm, UVD wavelength 100-200nm, also known as vacuum ultraviolet light.

UVA:

Long wave UVA, wavelength between 320 ~ 400 nanometers, also known as long wave dark spot effect ultraviolet. It has strong penetrating power, can penetrate glass, even nine feet of water; And all year round, whether cloudy or sunny, day and night exist.

The degree of harm to the human body: more than 95% of the ultraviolet rays exposed to the daily skin are UVA, so it is more harmful to the skin. UVA can attack through the epidermis, causing severe damage to collagen and elastin in the skin. And the cell's ability to protect itself is poor, and a small amount of UVA can cause great damage. Over time, the skin develops problems such as laxity, wrinkles, and the emergence of microvessels. At the same time, it can activate tyrosinase, resulting in immediate melanin deposition and the formation of new melanin, making the skin darker and less shiny. UVA can cause long-term, chronic, and lasting damage and prematurely age the skin, so it is also known as aging rays.

Application: UVA ultraviolet light of 360nm wavelength is in line with the phototaxis response curve of insects, and can be made to lure insects. UVA ultraviolet light of 300-420nm wavelength can only radiate near-ultraviolet light centered on 365nm through special colored glass lamps that completely cut off visible light, which can be used for ore identification, stage decoration, banknote inspection, and other places.

UVB:

Medium wave UVB, wavelength between 275 ~ 320 nanometers, also known as the middle wave red spot effect of ultraviolet. Medium penetration, its short wavelength part will be absorbed by the transparent glass, sunlight contains UVB is mostly absorbed by the ozone layer, only less than 2% can reach the Earth's surface, in the summer and afternoon will be particularly strong. Degree of harm to the human body: it will oxidize the protective lipid layer of the epidermis, making the skin dry; Further, the nucleic acids and proteins in the epidermal cells are denatured, resulting in symptoms such as acute dermatitis (that is, sunburn), and the skin will become red and painful. In severe cases, such as prolonged exposure to the sun, it can also easily lead to skin cancer. In addition, long-term damage to UVB can also cause melanocytes to mutate, causing sun spots that are difficult to eliminate.

Application: ultraviolet health lamp, plant growth lamp is issued by the use of special violet glass (not through the light below 254nm) and the peak near 300nm phosphor made.

UVC:

Short-wave UVC, wavelength between 200 ~ 275 nm, also known as short-wave sterilization ultraviolet. It has the weakest penetration ability and cannot penetrate most transparent glass and plastic. The shortwave ultraviolet rays contained in sunlight are almost completely absorbed by the ozone layer before they reach the ground. The degree of harm to the human body: UVC in nature is absorbed by the ozone layer because it does not reach the ground, and the impact on the skin can be ignored, but in fact, the short-wave ultraviolet ray is very harmful to the human body, and can not directly irradiate the human body. If direct exposure, short exposure can burn the skin, and long-term or high-intensity exposure can also cause skin cancer.

Application: Ultraviolet germicidal lamp is emitted by UVC short-wave ultraviolet. Shortwave UV is widely used in hospitals, air conditioning systems, disinfection cabinets, water treatment equipment, drinking fountains, sewage treatment plants, swimming pools, food and beverage processing and packaging equipment, food factories, cosmetics factories, dairy factories, breweries, beverage factories, bakeries and cold rooms and other fields.

Advantages and disadvantages of UV

In general, the advantages and disadvantages of UV:

Uv advantages:

1) disinfection and sterilization;

2) Promote bone development;

3) Good for blood color;

4) Occasionally can treat some skin diseases;

5) Can promote mineral metabolism and vitamin D formation in the body.

Disadvantages of ultraviolet light:

1) wrinkles caused by aging skin;

2) Produce spots;

3) Causing dermatitis;

4) Cause skin cancer.

UVC UV damage to the human body:

The main part of UVC UV damage to the human body is the eyes and bare skin. Short-term high-intensity irradiation can burn the eyes and skin, and long-term high-intensity irradiation can even cause skin cancer.

The penetration of UVC ultraviolet light is extremely weak, and ordinary transparent glass, clothes, plastics, dust, etc., can be completely blocked. Therefore, wearing UV protective glasses (if there are no glasses, avoid looking directly at the UV lamp) and covering the exposed skin as much as possible can protect the eyes and skin from UVC UV damage.

Short exposure to ultraviolet light is like being exposed to the hot sun, which does not harm the human body but is beneficial. UVB ultraviolet light can promote mineral metabolism and vitamin D formation in the body.

Principles to prevent UVC UV damage:

1) Wear UV protective glasses or a UV protective mask;

2) Avoid looking directly at the UV lamp;

3) Wear long-sleeved clothes to cover bare skin such as hands;

4) Use objects around you to block UV rays, such as walls, furniture, curtains, books, newspapers, etc.

5) Avoid long-term exposure to ultraviolet light, short exposure to the human body is not harmful.
