What is The Safety Standard of Laser Protection Products?

Apr 06, 2023 Leave a message

Laser Protection Products are many different types of laser protection safety standard certificates in Europe. These certificates have different uses in different occasions and fields.

1. " CE certification", which is a compulsory certification in the European Union, has the important significance of proving that products meet the requirements of the European Union, including laser protection equipment. This certificate is mainly aimed at the manufacturer or supplier to ensure that the product meets the basic safety requirements and complies with the relevant European technical standards.

2. “IEC 60825 ”, an international laser safety standard that has been adopted and incorporated into regulations in Europe. The standard specifies requirements for the classification, safety, labeling, and identification of lasers. This standard is aimed at manufacturers or suppliers to ensure that products comply with ISO and IEC standards.

The differences between IEC 60825-1 and IEC 60825-4 in this standard are as follows:

Scope of application: EN 60825-1 is applicable to all types of laser products, including handheld, industrial, and medical devices; EN 60825-4 is only suitable for fixed and mobile installation of laser products.

Test methods: EN 60825-1 requires a variety of methods to evaluate the safety performance of laser equipment, including power tests, radiation tests, and safety control tests. EN 60825-4, on the other hand, focuses on the safety performance of fixed and mobile-mounted laser equipment, and uses fewer test methods than EN 60825-1, mainly using safety control tests.

Safety specification level: EN 60825-1 classifies laser equipment into different safety levels, from Class Ⅰ (no danger) to ClassⅡ (Very dangerous), according to the risks posed by the laser. EN 60825-4, on the other hand, focuses only on laser devices in Class Ⅰ andⅡ.

Overall, EN 60825-1 is a more comprehensive evaluation standard for the safety of laser equipment, while EN 60825-4 focuses more on the safety performance of fixed and mobile-mounted laser equipment. Both standards are designed to ensure the safety of laser equipment for users and the environment.

3. " EN 207 and EN 208", which are designed for laser users and specify appropriate protective measures for personnel and equipment when performing laser operations. EN 207 is suitable for hand-held and fixed equipment, while EN 208 is suitable for protection measures against laser scattering and reflection.

EN207 standard: Laser protective glasses and laser protective plates are required to comply with EN207 standard, to ensure that the product can effectively protect against laser radiation, and meet the corresponding energy level;

EN208 standard: For laser protective glasses, also need to meet the EN208 standard, to ensure that the product can be used normally without affecting vision and comfort;

EN12254 standard: For laser protection plates, they must meet the EN12254 standard to ensure that the physical and reliable performance of the products meets the relevant requirements.

4."FDA Certification", which is FDA certification in the United States, but is also widely recognized in Europe. The certification applies more to laser medical devices and related applications to ensure that they meet the safety standards and regulatory requirements of the US FDA.

In addition, Europe also has corresponding requirements on the material, quality control, production process, and other aspects of laser protection products, which require the production enterprises to conduct certification and testing according to relevant standards.
